The Wildcats played the Oviedo Lions Friday night at Oviedo High School. The Lions have made it to the state championship game the last four years and came away with state titles in 2016 and 2017. Oviedo scored in the 7th minute of the game and would hold on to win the contest. The Wildcats had two promising scoring opportunities in the first half, including a break away run from their forward, but could not find the back of the net. With three and a half minutes remaining in the game, the Wildcats were awarded a penalty kick after Senior Ellie Moreno was fouled in the box. Winter Park’s leading scorer for the season, Senior Ansley Fraizer, took the PK and was denied by Oviedo goalkeeper Amanda Waggoner. Waggoner tipped Fraizer’s shot over the cross bar leading to a corner kick. Senior Sarah Dennis served in a scoring opportunity which was knocked away by Waggoner. Winter Park resumes play on January 9, 2019, at 7:30 pm against Edgewater High School at Showalter field.
