For the third time this season the Wildcats played the Boone Braves. The Wildcats were victorious in the first two contests winning those matches 4-0 and 3-0. The stakes for this game, however, could not have been any higher. The winner of the match would advance to the regional final. Boone entered the match coming off a dominating performance over Riverview High School in the regional quarter final winning that contest 5-1. The Wildcats beat Newsome High School 5-2 in their quarter final match. Early on it it was apparent Boone’s strategy was to play back defensively and not press the Wildcats. The amount of time the Wildcats possessed the ball in the first half eclipsed Boone’s possession. Boone’s tactics held through the first half of play which ended 0-0. The Wildcats entered the second half determined to turn it up offensively. Three minutes into the second half senior Ansley Frazier would score off a ball played to her by senior Ellie Moreno. Frazier would score again in the 65th minute. The Wildcats took 17 shots on goal in the second half more than doubling their effort in the first half. Boone had two shots on goal during the contest. The Wildcats defense led by senior Alex Granville had another impressive performance allowing only two shots on goal by the Braves. Winter Park will play Palm Harbor University High School Tuesday, 2/12, at 7:00 pm at Showalter field in the regional final. A win over Palm Harbor would advance the Wiildcats to the Final Four of the State 5A Championship.
